Arctic Saga
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Deep in the lands of the frozen north lives a little known race called
"sno-birds". Likeable and trusting creatures, they only get angry when
compared to their remote cousins, the penguins. Sno-birds are highly
intelligent and quite good at jumping but cannot fly. Above all, they are
afraid of water. In fact, contact with water is usually fatal for a sno-bird!

A Young sno-bird names Snokie is the hero of this adventure. Snokie has been
separated from his girlfriend Cara by evil "grodies" who have captured her and
are now holding her prisoner deep in a snow cave. Join Snokie in his rescue 
attempt to save Cara! Experience the trials of an arctic adventure like 
none other!

Keyboard Control
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Snokie way be played with thw keyboard by using the following keys to move
about arctic playscape:

[CRSR LEFT/RIGHT] - Walk right
[CRSR UP/DOWN] - Walk left
[SPACE] - Jump

You many jump to the right or the left pressing the corresponding key and 
[SPACE] at the same time.


Joystick Control
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Snokie requires that one joystick controller in port 2 (next to the power on/off
switch).

Push the joystick right to walk right or left to walk left. Push the joystick
button to jump during game play. Use the joystick and joystick button together
to jump right or left.

At the end of a game, you will automatically be returned to the Snokie title
screen. Here you may press the joystick button to restart a game.


Game Controls

[F1] - Here we go!

Press thi key to start game play or to return to the Snokie title screen.

[F3] - Normal or High-speed play

Press this key before game play to switch between Normal or High-speed play
speeds. The game starts with the Normal play speed.

[F5] - One or two players

Press this key before game play to choose a one or two player game.

[F7] - Take a rest!

Press this key during play for a pause. This is useful to stop for a drink or
snack, that phone call or just to catch your breath and think a while. Press the
[F7] key again to restart the game.

1, 2, 3 ... Just for fun!

Even the best gamers sometime run out of lives near the end of a challenging
game. Serious gamers, playing for maximun points, will restart the game 
and persevere from the beginning. However, as a convenience for others,
a just for fun mode is included. This allows you to restart the game at any
phase prior to the one in which you expired (during regular play) by hitting
the appropriate number key. Since thi is just for fun, no points will be
earned od dislayed and you will have only one life.


Scoring
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Your success in Snokie depends only on your forward progress. This is measured
by the display score.

normally you have three lives per game. However, as a reward for outstanding
play, you will receive an additional life for each 10,000 points scored.

At the end of a game in which a high score has been achieved, a High Score list 
will be displayed. Sfter a one player game with a high score, simply enter 
your name from the keyboard end press [RETURN]. After a two player game with
a high score, the high score list will flash the number of the player in the
upper right and left corners of the screen. A flashing "1" indicates that 
player 1 should enter his or her name and press [RETURN]. A flashing "2"
indicates that player 2 should enter his or her name and then press [RETURN].

The high score list is automatically saved tothe disk in the disk version.


About the authors

Troy Lyndon is a dedicated programmer who as also co-authored Time Runner for
the Commodore 64. He enjoys beach, tennis and playing electric piano with
his own rock band.

Yves Lempereur is a prolific programmer whose credits include Snokie and Time
Runner for the Atari as well as five games for the TRS-89. When not programming,
Yves likes customized cars, CB radio and bowling.
